Accommodation
Ghent boasts a wide range of accommodations to suit every budget. We have not made any prior arrangements with hotels, so participants are advised to book their accommodation well in advance. The website of visitgent is a useful starting point for finding accommodation.
Ghent is easily crossed on foot or by public transport (see the website of De Lijn). So as long as your accommodation is not too far outside the city center, you should be able to reach the conference venue in under 20 mins.
Travel
Ghent is conveniently located and easily accessible by various means.
By plane
Brussels Airport is only a short while from Ghent. By train it is max. 1.5 hours. By car it is about an hour travel via the E40 highway.
By train
From Brussels Airport, either take a direct train to Ghent (station Ghent St Pieters), or take a train to the city of Brussels and change trains there. Train services between the city of Brussels and Ghent are regular (it takes slightly over half an hour). Whether taking a train to Ghent directly from the airport or from Brussels, it is best to avoid the local trains stopping in Aalst (indicated on the information boards at the platforms), as they take more than 30 min. longer.
There are several high-speed train services (e.g. Eurostar) to Brussels from Paris, Köln, Amsterdam and London.
From the station Ghent St Pieters (Gent-Sint-Pieters) in Ghent, you can take a taxi (parking is underground), or tram T3 to the city center (e.g. stop "Koophandelsplein"), or a bus. Public transport schedules in Ghent can be found on the website of De Lijn.
By car
From Brussels Airport, first take the Brussels ring road (R0) in the direction of Ghent, then get on the E40 highway.
From Brussels, take the E40 highway to Ghent, then, approaching Ghent, turn on the E17 highway (direction Antwerp) and take the exit "Gent-Centrum".
From Antwerp, get on the E17 highway to Ghent and, when approaching Ghent, take the exit "Gent-Centrum".
From the "Gent-Centrum" exit on the highway, follow the parking signage to any of the underground parking garages nearest to the venue and many hotels: "Parking P7 Sint-Michiels", "Parking P8 Ramen" or "Parking P1 Vrijdagmarkt".
